Early Life and Struggles in Staten Island
Jeffrey Rudolph Wittek, known to millions as Jeff Wittek, was born on December 15, 1989, in New York City and raised in Staten Island. He attended Susan E. Wagner High School and, as a teenager, discovered his passion for barbering.
But his teenage years weren’t without hardship. While working in a local barbershop, he also became involved in selling marijuana, which led to multiple arrests. In 2011, at just 21 years old, Wittek was arrested in Miami for drug possession and trafficking. The charges were later dismissed due to an improper search warrant.
That turning point inspired him to leave New York behind and start fresh in Los Angeles.

Finding His Footing on YouTube
Jeff’s Barbershop: Comedy Meets Conversation
After moving to LA, Wittek combined his barbering background with comedy and storytelling. He launched Jeff’s Barbershop, a YouTube series where he cuts hair while interviewing internet personalities.
The show’s mix of humor, sharp editing, and unfiltered honesty quickly caught attention. Today, his channel Jeff Wittek boasts over 3 million subscribers and 348 million views.
Jeff FM Podcast
Wittek later expanded into podcasting with Jeff FM, a weekly show that gives fans a deeper look into his life, friendships, and the ups and downs of internet fame.
On Jeff FM, Wittek once admitted:
“I’ve made mistakes, but I don’t regret them. Every wrong turn put me right where I need to be.”
The Vlog Squad and the Accident That Changed Everything
Jeff Wittek gained wider fame as part of David Dobrik’s Vlog Squad, appearing in countless viral videos. But in 2020, his life nearly ended in a tragic stunt.
During the filming of one of Dobrik’s videos, Wittek was injured by an excavator stunt gone wrong, leaving him with severe facial and eye injuries. In his 2021 docuseries Don’t Try This at Home, Wittek shared the terrifying details.
“I almost died that day,” Wittek revealed. “I had to relearn how to live my life.”
The fallout led to a public split between Wittek and Dobrik. By 2022, Wittek filed a lawsuit against Dobrik, claiming negligence over the stunt that nearly cost him his eye. Dobrik argued Wittek knew the risks, but fans largely supported Jeff’s side of the story.

Reality TV and Online Ventures
The Bach3lor (2024)
In 2024, Wittek starred in The Bach3lor, a comedy dating show created by the H3 Podcast. Across five episodes, Jeff met 20 contestants before ultimately choosing Verica, from Brisbane, Australia.
Jeff’s Barbershop Store
Beyond content creation, Wittek also launched Jeff’s Barbershop Store, an online haircare brand that sells grooming products and merchandise, cementing his entrepreneurial side.
Awards and Recognition
Jeff Wittek’s raw, authentic storytelling has earned him industry recognition:
- 2020 Streamy Awards – Nominated for Unscripted Series (Jeff’s Barbershop)
- 2021 Streamy Awards – Won for Documentary (Don’t Try This at Home)
Public Image and Why Fans Connect With Him
Unlike many creators who carefully curate their image, Wittek has built a reputation for being brutally honest about his past and struggles. Fans admire his openness, resilience, and dark sense of humor.
As one viewer commented after his docuseries:
“Jeff doesn’t hide his flaws — and that’s why people love him. He’s real.”
What’s Next for Jeff Wittek?
With Jeff’s Barbershop, Jeff FM, and new creative projects on the way, Jeff Wittek shows no signs of slowing down. Despite setbacks and controversies, he continues to reinvent himself as one of YouTube’s most authentic voices.
From Staten Island barber to internet star, Jeff’s journey is proof that even the toughest past can be reshaped into a powerful future.
Or as Wittek himself once put it:
