At 19, Michael entered the competitive scene, but not in a beginner category—his instructor placed him directly into the black belt and above division. In 2023, fate gave him another shot at glory when an opponent dropped out of a fight for the Yorkshire Championships. Stepping in at the last moment, Michael seized the opportunity and emerged victorious, becoming the Yorkshire champion.

Shortly after his championship win, career changes forced Michael to take a break from martial arts. However, his passion never faded.
